How To Make a Shower Compartment In a Bathroom With Only a Bathtub

A bathroom consists of different faucets installed. This may be a tub, wash hand basin and water closet. However others may have the shower, bathtub, water closet and washing basins. Old homes and sometimes the new ones may have only the bathtub installed without a shower area. Due to running costs of water and heating, a home owner may wish for a shower compartment but the cost of purchase for a ready cubical maybe prohibitive. Therefor an option for a in built shower compartment may arise.
The home owner may rip off the bathtub depending on the preferences between a tub and a shower. A point to note is how to drain water in the shower. This can be solved by raising the floor of the compartment to accommodate drainage pipes and a floor trap.
The shower compartment is usually three feet wide and four feet long. Identify the position near the old bathtub's water and drainage points. On the corner measure three feet internal dimension. Measure from the end point four feet long. Chase the wall for water both hot and cold water supply and fix the piping. Also concrete a plinth of four inches to hold the floor trap for waste water.Erect the new wall of four feet long, four inches thick and a height of seven feet. This compartment uses an existing back wall and a new side wall.
After the wall is erected, ceramic tiles are laid around the shower compartment. The floor is laid to fall towards the floor trap. A raised kerb of three inches is done and tiled. The shower fittings are then fixed onto the walls. Testing pipes before and after tiling is important. If the cost of a shutter is prohibitive, a shower rail can be fixed. On this a shower curtain is hung to prevent splashing into the room. The aluminum shutter or any other appropriate shower door is fixed to open outwards into the room.
